Sophia Marzolff is being honored for her translation of the novel "Rozpůlený dům" ("A House Divided") by Alice Horáčková from Czech. The jury was impressed by Sophia Marzolff's "artful, subtle and historically precise translation", which "deals with the diverse cosmos of a village community in the Sudeten Giant Mountains and portrays a time full of fractures and upheavals." The 10,000 euro scholarship is awarded annually by the Free State of Bavaria to enable literary translators to devote themselves to a translation project without economic or material constraints.
