Christmas Oratorio von James MacMillan
In the organizer's words:
“Highly dramatic, rich in color, at times ecstatic, at times rapturous”—this is how James MacMillan’s*Christmas Oratorio*, composed in 2019, has been described. The Scottish composer unmistakably draws on venerable predecessors here; at the same time, he succeeds in creating a modern, rousing celebration of Christ’s birth: pure Christmas joy—with concentrated rhythmic energy and film-score-like effects. The arias and choruses are set to biblical texts and English poetry. MacMillan also makes room for contemplative passages that foreshadow Jesus’s passion.
