Eva von Redecker und Sabine Nuss | Wem gehört die Zukunft?
In the organizer's words:
Wars, the climate crisis, inflation, and social insecurity are shaking the present day. While the promises of prosperity, security, and social mobility have become fragile for many people, right-wing and authoritarian movements are gaining influence worldwide. They offer simple answers to complex issues and direct frustration toward those who supposedly “don’t belong”: migrants, refugees, and other social groups. But why are fears of social decline and loss often directed not at the causes of social inequality, but at those who are denied a share in society?
Together with philosopher Eva von Redecker and political scientist Sabine Nuss, we explore the reasons behind this “new fascism” (v. Redecker): the defense of real and imagined property, the political instrumentalization of fears of loss, and the construction of enemy stereotypes. We discuss how the rejection of migrants and refugees has increasingly become established as a response to social crises—and explore which alternatives, such as an “anti-fascist economic policy,” could counter the shift to the right.
