“Off the Path”

This 3D animation and spatial installation is inspired by the classical medical text “Zhou Hou Bei Ji Fang.” The work follows three animal-like figures—a fish, a pig, and a chicken—who, with the help of an ancient recipe, enter into a direct dialogue with life itself. In their search for healing, they gradually lose their way and drift further and further from the desired outcome.

One night in Dushanbe. A voice asks from the darkness: “What does it mean to be together?” Through a series of loose observations, Danila Lipatov explores the capital of Tajikistan. He searches for connections to his relatives, who lived here until they fled in the 1990s. Around the Bactria Youth Cultural Center, he meets a group of people with whom he strikes up a conversation. The present is embraced; history is touched upon. Snapshots of a temporary community. (Duisburg Film Week 2025)
