Einsteins Piano: Gerald Clayton

This concert in the “Einstein’s Piano” series will take place in Hall 4 at Einstein. Just recently, jazz critics from all over the world voted for the best of the best in their respective categories for the American magazine Down Beat. As has so often been the case, Gerald Clayton made it into the top twenty in the piano category of this critics’ poll—his name appears side by side with many piano legends. He has truly earned this position with a style of playing in which heart and mind are in constant dialogue, and with music that has character and the potential to endure far beyond the present.

The famous opposites that magically attract each other are always palpable when Gerald Clayton plays. Tradition and modernity, composition and improvisation constantly draw closer together in his music; lyricism alternates with an audible spirit of adventure.

Gerald Clayton is the son of the legendary bassist and educator John Clayton. When he isn’t busy with his own exciting projects, inspiring bandleaders like Charles Lloyd and John Scofield continually bring out new facets in their four-time Grammy-nominated collaborator and are delighted to have one of the best jazz pianists of his generation by their side.
