Jazz at Green Room: Paul Prassel Quartett

Cologne-based guitarist and composer Paul Prassel studied at the Cologne University of Music and Dance (HfMT Köln) under Florian Ross and Bruno Müller, among others.
After completing his bachelor’s degree, he went to Oslo on a DAAD scholarship, where he earned his master’s degree under the renowned guitarist Lage Lund.
During this time, he deepened his passion for jazz while also immersing himself in classical music and other forms of contemporary music.

His compositions draw on personal experiences from a life spent between Germany and Norway. Inspiration comes from a variety of sources: literature and film, everyday situations, and even the world of board games.

The quartet includes Leon Hattori, Nico Klöffer, and Simon Bräumer, with whom Prassel has been playing regularly for many years. The compositions provide a common framework, much like a board game: the structure is always the same, yet each progression gives rise to new situations that continually steer the interplay of the four musicians in different directions.
