Peter Bernstein Quartet

In the organizer's words:

Peter Bernstein, born in New York in 1967, is a guitarist at the interface of jazz tradition and modernity. His instrumental colleague Jim Hall recruited the young jazz guitar student for a concert at the renowned JVC Jazz Festival in New York, which was the beginning of a career as a sideman with both "old jazz cats" and prominent "young lions". He played in saxophonist Lou Donaldson's band for ten years, and drummer Jimmy Cobb, organist Dr. Lennie Smith and saxophonist David Fathead Newman often called him into the studio or on stage. At the same time, he was guitarist for saxophonist Joshua Redman, worked with pianist Brad Mehldau and his instrumental colleague Diana Krall and was at the side of bassist Christian McBride. Experience that he now brings to his own quartet. This foursome focuses on a casual swing in its modern jazz, the themes of the pieces becoming the basis for an eloquently phrased, imaginative art of improvisation.
