As the eighth of ten children, young Michael Jackson (Juliano Krue Valdi) is drilled early on for a career in music under the strict guidance of his father, Joe (Colman Domingo). He enjoys his first successes with the family band, the Jackson Five, and by the age of 13, he has already launched his solo career. Even as an adult (played by Jaafar Jackson), his life remains dominated by music. In the late 1970s, while working on a film project, he meets Diana Ross (Kat Graham) and producer Quincy Jones (Kendrick Sampson), an encounter that fundamentally changes his musical direction. The album *Off the Wall* (1979), produced by Jones, became a huge success, which was surpassed in 1982 by the groundbreaking and best-selling album *Thriller*. Parallel to this rise to fame, he had a falling-out with his father, Joe, whom Jackson fired as his manager and replaced with attorney John Branca (Miles Teller).
