No Motor Vehicles? – The Power of Electric-Assisted Bicycles for Short Trips and Efficient Mobility
What’s it about?
Electric-assist bicycles are becoming increasingly important as a mode of transportation for short trips. They contribute to efficient, practical, and space-saving mobility. The focus is on their potential for shaping future sustainable mobility systems and their role as an alternative to cars for short distances.
Where Do We Stand Today?
The market for electric-assist bicycles is growing steadily. Modern drive systems enable long ranges, while digital connectivity and bike-sharing systems create new ways to use them. At the same time, bicycle infrastructure and express bike routes are being further expanded in many places, improving the conditions for their use in everyday life.
What’s new?
Electric-assist bicycles are increasingly viewed as an integral part of urban mobility. They combine low energy and space requirements with high efficiency and can effectively supplement or replace short trips in many scenarios.
