Paul Zauner Quartett feat. Leo Genovese
In the organizer's words:
Leo Genovese (piano), Paul Zauner (trombone), Wolfram Derschmidt (bass), Dusan Novakov (drums)
Leonardo Genovese was born in 1979 in Venado Tuerto, Argentina; he performs regularly with Joe Lovano and the Esperanza Spalding Group. Together with Wayne Shorter, Genovese won the 2023 Grammy Award for Best Improvised Jazz Solo. He was also nominated for a Grammy, alongside Wayne Shorter and Esperanza Spalding, in the Best Jazz Instrumental Album category for “Live at the Detroit Festival.” Genovese hopes that one day his music can be more than just entertainment—namely, a force for change in a world marked by economic, social, and political challenges.
“I want it to evolve in a positive, helpful direction,” he says. “I hope that people can truly derive value from it. There are so many people in the world who are suffering. Most of us never notice this because we have the bare necessities and much more. But some people—many people—have very little.”
