Some bands take years to find their own sound. Radio Free Alice seem to have known it from the very beginning. The Melbourne-based quartet combines the urgency of post-punk with the elegance of new wave and a remarkable knack for great melodies. Their music is energetic but never one-dimensional; it’s catchy without ever feeling formulaic. That’s precisely where their particular strength lies.

With “What’s In Between,” their debut album set for release on October 30 via Atlantic Records, the band now presents the most convincing evidence yet that their meteoric rise is anything but a coincidence. The album was produced in collaboration with Peter Katis, whose signature style has already left its mark on albums by Interpol, The National, and Death Cab for Cutie. Recorded across Australia, the U.S., and the U.K., the album is a work that transcends both geographical distances and musical genres. The new single “Crying With You” opens this chapter with impressive ease. Written during a stay in Joshua Tree, California, the song emerged from two initially unrelated ideas that eventually merged into an organic whole. It’s emblematic of the band’s creative process: rather than following conventions, their songs emerge from friction, intuition, and the courage to bring together unfinished elements.

Radio Free Alice’s success can no longer be measured solely by streaming numbers or critical acclaim. The band has earned its reputation primarily on stage. Following festival appearances at Governor’s Ball, Reading Festival, Riot Fest, and Austin City Limits, as well as a spontaneously organized pop-up concert in London that drew more than 500 fans, it becomes clear just how powerfully their music unfolds live. There, the edgy guitars, the distinctive saxophone, and frontman Noah Learmonth’s charismatic stage presence take on even greater impact. Anyone who experiences Radio Free Alice live quickly understands why their first tours in the UK, Europe, and the U.S. were completely sold out in many places—including a sold-out concert at Berlin’s Schokoladen in September 2025.

“What’s In Between” therefore feels less like the debut of a promising up-and-coming band and more like the confident statement of a group that has already found its place in the international guitar music scene.
