German artist Ruebi doesn’t storm into the room; he takes his time and waits for the room to come to him. That alone sets him apart from the post-punk nostalgics who are constantly chasing after their own past. Years of working and touring in the music scene have shown him what perseverance really means—when it’s no longer about trying to impress. His solo projects capture this understanding perfectly: economy, intention, and courage. 

Ruebi’s journey has already been full of movement. The early years behind the drums in Germany’s new wave scene. A long stretch on tour with Pink Turns Blue, during which he played cities until they all blurred together. Time in London, during which he absorbed different perspectives and different tempos. When the pandemic forced a hiatus, it also broke something open. He stepped back from the band and turned toward autonomy, opting for a slower pace and a sharper focus.

He now lives in Hamburg, works part-time, and is building an inclusive collective of musicians. Ruebi doesn’t seem to care about metrics of relevance. This detachment works in his favor. “Dazzling” comes across as carefree, self-assured, and alert. It bears traces of The Cure, Siouxsie, Lebanon Hanover, Nina Hagen, Fehlfarben, Ideal, Depeche Mode, Killing Joke, and Laibach—but only as echoes, not as imitation.
