Skylar Tang

In the USA, trumpeter Skylar Tang is considered a sensation - even though she still has the status of a student. The New Yorker by choice from the San Francisco Bay Area has long since taken the hearts of jazz lovers and renowned colleagues by storm with her refreshing manner, her presence, her versatility and her virtuosity. Joshua Redman was so impressed by her that he even invited Skylar Tang to record his album Words Fall Short.

Even as a teenager, Skylar Tang traveled the big wide world. She performed with Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra in the USA, Europe and South Africa. There she stood out as a trumpeter. But her talents are not limited to her instrument. In 2022, she won the Essentially Ellington's Student Composition/ Arranging Contest. And soon afterwards she was able to perform her composition Kaleidoscope with the Jazz at Lincoln Orchestra. She even conducted the large orchestra. The next highlight in 2025: a two-month residency in Japan.

Skylar Tang is currently still preparing for her degrees at Columbia University and the Juilliard School. But these are of course only a formality. The world-famous trumpeter Sean Jones has a prediction for Skylar Tang's future that should please her. He said that once in a blue moon a talent comes along who has as much foresight as she does and has what it takes to make a lasting impact on the jazz world.
