On the Ennedi Plateau in northeastern Chad, Kellou is haunted by dark visions she cannot understand. In this village nestled between mountains and canyons, which lives in isolation, Kellou is considered a “blood girl,” marked by misfortune. Her mother died while giving birth to her. The arrival of Aya, a single woman, will shake up her life and help her understand and master this gift she inherited from her mother. SOUMSOUM, LA NUIT DES ASTRES follows Kellou’s journey toward emancipation and challenges the rigidity of religious beliefs. With this feature film, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun continues his exploration of the intimate and political fault lines in his country.
