With the “Swing Georg” concert series, Cologne-based trumpeter Thimo Niesterok celebrates the music of the swing era with a rotating lineup of top-notch musicians. The special guest this evening is Stuttgart-based pianist Thilo Wagner, who blends the styles of Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner, and Red Garland in his own incomparable way. The joy of playing and positive energy that Wagner radiates from the very first second instantly rubs off on the audience and, combined with his outstanding musical finesse, makes him one of the most sought-after soloists and sidemen in Europe—for example, with Jim Hall, Scott Hamilton, Ken Peplowski, and—for decades—with Emil Mangelsdorff.
Thimo Niesterok (*1996) is one of the outstanding voices of the young German jazz scene and, as a trumpeter, captivates audiences not only with his extraordinary musicality but also with his passion for swing and mainstream jazz. Niesterok’s warm, nuanced tone and his unmistakable phrasing lend his musical language a special depth that delights long-time jazz fans as well as new and, above all, young listeners alike.
