The Farrencs in Paris and the HIP-Movement
In the organizer's words:
How long has the fascination with the music of the past and historically informed performance (HIP) been around? Even artists of the 19th century were already engaged in the search for the original sound. The lives and works of the musicians Louise and Aristide Farrenc provide fascinating answers to this question. The Parisian couple combined theory and practice; they were fascinated by the study of their predecessors and were thus ahead of their time. The Farrencs also lived during a period of upheaval, when instruments such as the flute were undergoing significant changes. Louise Farrenc’s Trio, Op. 45, is documented as one of the first works written for the Böhm flute. This moderated concert challenges existing assumptions about HIP.
