The 35th Turkish Film Days will open on April 17 at 7 p.m. in the Royal Filmpalast with the 1983 comedy ŞALVAR DAVASI - THE BAGGY TROUSERS CASE by Kartal Tibet - a classic of Turkish film history. In the newly restored film, Turkish film icon Müjde Ar plays the role of young Elif, who returns from the city to her home village and incites the women to collectively resist the men. Lysistrata in Turkish! Today, Müjde Ar looks back on 50 years as an actress and formative figure in Turkish cinema. She will be honored with an honorary award for her life's work at the opening of the Turkish Film Days.

Several films in the program focus on the perspective of women: in CAM PERDE - GLASS CURTAIN (20.04.), a woman defends herself against her divorced husband; in ANIDEN - SUDDENLY (20.04.), the story of a woman's self-discovery is told; the documentary DÜET - DUET (20.04.) portrays two friends who are synchronized swimmers.

Complicated relationship stories with uncertain outcomes are told in the slightly offbeat films ELA İLE HİLMİ VE ALİ - ELA AND HILMI WITH ALI (19.04.) and SANKİ HER ŞEY BİRAZ FELAKET - ALMOST ENTIRELY A SLIGHT DISASTER (20.04.). In KARGANIN UYKUSU - SLEEP OF THE CROW (19.04.), the protagonist struggles with guilt over the death of his wife, while love for his wife determines the life of reed cutter Ali in SON HASAT - THE REEDS (21.04.), who dares to defy the local mafia.

The political conflict in eastern Turkey is the backdrop to the multi-award-winning film IM TOTEN WINKEL (April 21) by German-Turkish director Ayşe Polat. A thriller about intrigue, betrayal and a German journalist who gets caught between the invisible fronts.

Outstanding documentaries form a focal point of the program: KOMÜNİST OSMAN - COMMUNIST OSMAN portrays the mayor of Dikili, a town on the Turkish Aegean, who campaigned for peaceful relations with the neighbouring Greek country and became a symbol of a peace movement (18.04. | Royal Filmpalast). RODAKİS'İ ARARKEN - SEARCHING FOR RODAKIS (20.04.) deals with the historical ruptures between the two neighboring countries Turkey and Greece; ULYSSES ÇEVİRMEK - TRANSLATING ULYSSES (20.04.) is a portrait of the Kurdish translator Kawa Nemir, who ventured into political exile in Amsterdam to translate James Joyce's Ulysses into Kurdish. In the double program DINAMO MESKEN + ISKA - THE MISS (21.04.), everything revolves around soccer; KAVUR (21.04.) goes in search of the Turkish director Ömer Kavur.

A short film program with eight films invites you on an exciting journey through Turkey - quirky, enigmatic and satirical (21.04. | Gasteig HP8).

The closing film of the Turkish Film Days is the 3-hour, multi-award-winning masterpiece HAYAT / LIFE by Zeki Demirkubuz, one of the most remarkable directors of contemporary Turkish cinema (21.04.) In it, a young man sets off into the urban jungle of Istanbul in search of his fiancée, whom he has only seen once. But does Hicran even want to be found?
