Der Luchs in NRW: Wiederansiedlung, Vernetzung und Schutz

The lynx is one of the most fascinating, yet also one of the rarest
wild animals in Europe. Once native to large parts of Germany,
it was hunted for centuries and nearly exterminated. Today, there are
initial efforts are once again underway to reintroduce it into our landscapes.
In North Rhine-Westphalia, the possible return of the lynx is being
conservation and reintroduction projects,
including by BUND in collaboration with the NRW Foundation and other
partners. Key considerations include the connectivity of suitable habitats,
the genetic stability of populations, and the monitoring of the animals play a
central role.
In this presentation, BUND provides insights into the biology of the lynx and its
habitat requirements, highlights the opportunities and challenges of a
potential reintroduction, and provides information on current conservation and
monitoring projects in Germany and North Rhine-Westphalia. It will also address potential conflicts
and threats to the animals—such as those posed by road traffic or
habitat fragmentation.
