When the shimmering energy of Gypsy swing meets Italian passion: The Munich concert series “Swing Manouche” invites you to a musical highlight in the vaulted ceilings of Einstein Kultur. The guest is none other than the exceptional Turin-based guitarist Alessandro Di Virgilio.

Known as the lead guitarist and mastermind behind the acclaimed group “Accordi Disaccordi,” Di Virgilio has brought traditional Jazz Manouche à la Django Reinhardt into the present day. His music is a fascinating melting pot of fast-paced rhythms, Mediterranean melodies, and an unmistakable cinematic expansiveness. This cinematic approach is no coincidence: As an award-winning film composer—his track “Criminal Swing” won the prestigious Mark Award for Best Jazz Track in Los Angeles—the Italian knows exactly how to tell gripping stories through sound. From major international stages such as the Umbria Jazz Festival and the Blue Note Milano, he now brings his breathtakingly virtuosic playing up close and personal to Munich.

For this special evening, he has assembled a first-class rhythm section to join him. On double bass is Munich-based bassist, bandleader, and cultural manager Julia Hornung, who is deeply rooted in the local scene as a driving force and provides the relentlessly swinging groove. The two are joined by the fantastic Italian guitarist Giangiacomo Rosso, who perfectly rounds out this top-tier string trio with his seamless rhythm and solo work.

The program promises a rousing tribute to the Italian way of life, presented through the lens of gypsy jazz.
