This concert, part of the “Einstein’s Piano” series, will take place in Hall 4 at Einstein. Berlin-based pianist Julia Hülsmann usually performs in a trio, a quartet, or with the elaborate octet that recently released the album *While I Was Away*. Now, however, she will be alone on stage with herself and the grand piano, playing something intimate—music that is very lyrical and, as it was once described, post-impressionist chamber music filtered through jazz.
Few jazz musicians in this country can boast such a reputation: the multi-award-winning pianist and composer Julia Hülsmann has helped shape many chapters of German jazz history and has not only released a series of trio and quartet albums that redefined the aesthetic of these ensembles; she has also set poetry and literature to music, given pop and rock songs a fresh new sound, and realized projects with outstanding singers, including Roger Cicero, Rebekka Bakken, and Theo Bleckmann.
