БОЖЕВІЛЬНІ , R: DENIS TARASOV , HISTORICAL DRAMA
"Diagnosis: Dissent" is a Ukrainian historical drama by director Denis Tarasov, duration: 118 minutes. The Gerhart-Hauptmann-Haus is showing the film as part of the Ukrainian Film Days NRW 2025, which offer audiences a special opportunity to get to know the diversity and depth of Ukrainian cinema.
About the film: The protagonist Andrii Dovzhenko discovers a terrible truth that was hidden for years in the USSR - most of those accused of "anti-Soviet propaganda" were never sent to prison, but to special psychiatric clinics with a diagnosis of "slowly progressing schizophrenia". Andrii finds himself in a real hell of penal psychiatry and faces a difficult decision to cooperate with the KGB and return to his family or to reveal the truth about the dissidents tortured in such psychiatric hospitals. "Diagnosis: Dissent" celebrated its world premiere at the Warsaw International Film Festival in 2023.
Afterwards, we cordially invite you to a discussion with Prof. Dr. Gelinada Grinchenko.
