John Davidson grows up in a small Scottish town in the early 1980s and, at the age of twelve, begins to exhibit pronounced nervous tics. What would not be diagnosed as Tourette syndrome until years later would henceforth shape his daily life. Neither at school nor at home are his uncontrolled movements and spontaneous outbursts recognized as medical symptoms; instead, he is met with ridicule or punishment. About 15 years later, John is still living with his mother and struggling with the side effects of strong medication. Until a chance encounter with his former classmate Murray and Murray’s mother, Dottie, completely changes his situation… Based on the true story of John Davidson, this feature film tells with sensitive humor and great warmth how he finds his way despite his Tourette syndrome, despite exclusion and a lack of understanding, and ultimately becomes one of the best-known advocates for Tourette awareness.
