Jennifer Benkau: Fairiegolden Town

In the organizer's words:

Jennifer Benkau was born in April 1980 in Solingen, the “City of Blades.” After spending her childhood and teenage years hammering out stories on an anachronistic typewriter, she fell into a literary slumber just as she was coming of age—a slumber from which she was abruptly awakened in December 2008 by the inspiration for her first novel. In 2013, she received the DeLiA Literary Prize for her dystopian novel *Dark Canopy*. She lives with her husband, four children, two dogs, and a horse between Düsseldorf and Cologne.

All her life, Bria, Princess of Thieves, has lived in the shadow of her famous mother. To finally be taken seriously, she sets out to steal the signet ring of a dangerous clan leader. In the process, she finds herself caught up in a melting pot of intrigue, injustice, and the lust for power. But she also discovers friendship, compassion, and love—and learns more about herself than she ever wanted to know. Ultimately, Bria must decide whether to return to her guild as a celebrated heroine or risk everything and follow her heart on an adventure that cannot be won with earthly weapons.
After the protests in Liverpool were brutally crushed, Samuel Everett, the leader of the Skysons, faces an impossible decision. Either he betrays the Fairies—and with them, the entire city—or his great love will be executed. But as the Princess of Thieves, Bria, too, will not admit defeat until her heart stops beating. Together, the two summon a storm, and Fairiegolden Town becomes the center of an unprecedented rebellion among humans, fairies, mermaids, and demons.
