Klaus der Geiger needs no introduction in Cologne, and his career as a street musician has been well documented in words, pictures, and film. But hardly anyone knows how it all began—the backstory, that is. Klaus and Richard reminisce and recount their first encounter, which led to the founding of the “Tabernakel” commune; they talk about crowds gathering and police interventions while they played music on the street, police raids on the commune, the puppettheater for children, their enthusiasm for the methods of the Living Theater, and the German Peter Schumann and his Bread & Puppet Theater in the U.S. In between, both will perform on violin and guitar.
