LA KORA DE MON PÈRE (MY FATHER’S KORA)
In the organizer's words:
LA KORA DE MON PÈRE (MY FATHER’S KORA)
(Dir.: Ayeman Aymar Esse; Benin/Senegal/Switzerland/Germany 2026; Original with subtitles, DCP; 87 min.)
Souleymane, an Afro-German trans man, travels from Berlin to Dakar for the first time to have his father’s kora repaired. The journey also becomes a quest for self-discovery. Amid the interplay of body, music, tailoring, the sea, faith, and family heritage, he attempts to piece together the fragments of his identity. In the process, he also grows closer to his Senegalese family, particularly his brother Mansour, with whom he shares a passion for sewing. With great sensitivity, the film combines poetic imagery with documentary-style intimacy, offering an intimate perspective on queer life, belonging, and healing. The film celebrated its world premiere at the 2026 Locarno Film Festival.
