Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys

Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys is an art-pop/tender-noise band known for its curiosity about sonic transformation. The idea was first conceived in 2015 by frontwoman Lucy Kruger—a South African-born singer-songwriter and guitarist. After moving to Berlin in 2018, the project found its distinctive, ever-evolving form.

Years of touring and recording have fostered a shared, highly intuitive language within the band—one that knows exactly when to be quiet and when to be loud. Their journey—from the understated recordings made at home to the powerful, wild energy on stage—reflects not only the evolution of their sound but also their focus on the experience, emotional presence, and the ceaseless need to express themselves.

With equal parts intensity and grace, Kruger’s voice has moved in recent years through dense, atmospheric soundscapes heavily influenced by ambient and post-punk elements. In doing so, she combines soft, whispering passages with dark, raw, almost incantatory vocals.

The band’s performances are driven by the close, intuitive interplay between Liú Mottes (guitar), Jean-Louise Parker (viola), Gidon Carmel (drums), and Andreas Bonkowski (bass). The musicians have long been known for their immersive energy and their ability to shift between moments of tender restraint and pure ecstasy. The project’s approach is based on making sound not only audible but also physically and emotionally experiential—resulting in live shows
that are celebrated for their precise and powerful emotional expression. Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys were quickly compared to bands like Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey, and Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds.

In 2023, the group was awarded the Europavox Spotlight Prize. That same year, Kruger was selected to participate in Keychange—a global network and movement dedicated to gender equality in the music industry
