Never before have there been so many investigations for mere words, whether it's about migration, climate policy, Ukraine or the Middle East conflict. The state now defines a number of political statements as punishable by law, which ten years ago were clearly considered freedom of speech.
In his new book,Ronen Steinke shows where the boundaries of freedom of expression now lie. Instead of leaving it to the courts to decide whether statements are punishable, he argues for more transparency and calls for more debates to be allowed in civil society as long as they remain non-violent. He will be joined on stage by cultural scientist and author Mithu Sanyal (forthcoming: "Nein. Gegen die Militarisierung der Gegenwart") to discuss the state of our debate culture - from a legal and social perspective. Moderator: Ferdos Forudastan
