In the organizer's words:

The organization SIAN (Stop the Islamization of Norway) has set itself the goal of driving Islam out of Norway. However, the xenophobic slogans under the guise of freedom of expression are met with resistance. A heated debate about the basic values of democracy erupts on the streets and escalates into violent confrontations. As tensions between the two camps escalate, the rift in society is revealed in the face of the rise of extremism and intolerance. How much extremism can a democracy withstand and where is the line between legitimate debate and dangerous extremism?

While the film Norwegian Democrazy (Norway 2024, Bård Kjøge Rønning, 87 min.) gets closer to the protagonists and their motivations, it raises the political discussion to a meta-level and poses the fundamental question that is also highly relevant outside Norway: How can governments and society combat the burgeoning hatred from the right and defend the foundations of a free, open society?

The screening will be followed by a discussion with director Bård Kjøge Rønning and producer Fabien Greenberg.

Bård Kjøge Rønning studied History of Religion at the University of Oslo. He runs Antipode Films together with Fabien Greenberg. The directors and producers live in Olso and have received several international awards.
