NÓS, O POVO DAS ILHAS (WE, PEOPLE OF THE ISLANDS)

Starting with a forgotten photograph of a group of Cape Verdean guerrilla fighters operating covertly in the mountains of Cuba, the young filmmakers set out in search of the silenced heroes of this daring and little-known military operation, whose primary goal was to realize Amílcar Cabral’s dream: to free the country from the clutches of colonialism. Shifting constantly between the past and the present, the film enters into a dialogue with the heroes of the country’s independence. Together with them, the film travels through the years of the liberation struggle in Guinea-Bissau and through Cape Verde in the post-independence era.
