Ourania Gassiou was born in Athens. Although the Greek Ktesibios invented the water organ, there are very few pipe organs in Greece today. The first Greek woman to participate in the International Organ Summer studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she won numerous academic awards. She completed her training in Cologne and Paris, and now performs internationally. Since 2011, Gassiou has been the organist at the Megaron, the Athens Philharmonic, where she plays the country’s largest concert organ. In 2021, she wasnamed an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music , an honorary title awarded to alumni with international standing.
