Klangwart

A music journalist once described them as “elder statesmen of neo-Krautrock.” Perhaps the term “under-statesmen” would be more fitting, as minimalism and understatement are central elements of the Klangwart project, which was founded in 1996 by musician and author Timo Reuber and DJ and Staubgold label manager Markus Detmer. Every few years, the duo seems to appear out of nowhere, releases a Klangwart album that is universally praised by critics, plays a few concerts, and then disappears again. This may seem like harakiri, as it defies all the conventional rules of the music market. But behind it all lies a deep longing for authentic expression at the intersection of the avant-garde and entertainment. In the fall of 2026, Klangwart will release their new album “Wildnis” just in time for their 30th anniversary. In addition to Markus Detmer and Timo Reuber, the French drummer and saxophonist Sébastien Del Grande is also part of the project. Live, Klangwart will perform as a trio featuring electronics, turntables, saxophone, and percussion.

Cheb Del Grande

Saxophonist, drummer, pianist, and sound painter Cheb Del Grande presents his multi-instrumental solo set—a sonic journey blending free improvisation, electronics, and sound poetry. In the late 1990s, he trained in free improvisation with Instants Chavirés and studied jazz with Sunny Murray and John Betsch in Paris, where he performed alongside Bertrand Denzler and Rassul Siddick. In 2005, he moved to the south of France to collaborate with the avant-garde saxophonist John Tchicai and expanded his collaborations: with Pascal Comelade, a pioneer of outsider music; Markus Detmer’s experimental electronic music; the psychedelic rock of Jack Of Heart; performances with poet Laura Vasquez; and film concerts—“Der Golem,” “Les Vampires,” “No Future”—to which a new project centered on Häxan was added. He also leads GORI, an ensemble of nine improvisers, and uses sound painting as a tool for collective creation.
