Torn between deliberate naivety and exaggerated perception, Christian Bigos presents German pop music in the classic singer-songwriter style in the wake of the Hamburg, Berlin and other big city schools. Sometimes cynical and loud, sometimes gentle and quiet, he tells stories from life. Chris Bigos is RONDOPRINZ. Equipped with the eclectic understanding of pop and the technical finesse of ANDY PARTRIDGE or ROBYN HITCHCOCK, he has quietly amassed a remarkable body of work.

In the nineteen-nineties, with (YOUR) FINEST DROPS, he created the most beautiful jangle pop with a female voice that didn't at least come from Sheffield - a band that should have become the German CARDIGANS. Since their break-up, Bigos has been singing herself. Named after a Danish washing machine, RONDOPRINZ does not hide its kinship with bands such as ERDMÖBEL or the FLOWERPORNOES (with whom Bigos once played lead guitar in the last millennium), but instead pursues cultivated German pop lyricism like them.

Bigos' new album Gartentagebau is the culmination of his work for the time being. In keeping with the album's title, there is a (perhaps late seventies) folk vibe that suits the checked-out, clever and yet somehow casual songs very well. And it also fits in perfectly with the Berlin cassette label FROH & MUNTER RECORDS, with its penchant for slightly kooky genius between the chairs (LOIK, OSKAR ICH, SUNDOWN...). The CD edition will be released on Chris Bigos' newly founded label FÖRDERTURM RECORDS.

Live, RONDOPRINZ is not only an orchestra with a band, but also solo: delicate guitars and vocals, bouzoukis, harmonica and and and... - like all great art, Bigos' work is more than the sum of its parts. And there's always this flickering and flickering that you can't quite tell if it was recorded or if it fell in from way up high.
