During the Cold War, Nobel Prize-winning author Thomas Mann (Hanns Zischler) and his daughter, the actress, author, and rally driver Erika Mann (Sandra Hüller), set out in a black Buick on an emotionally taxing journey through a Germany in ruins. The route takes them from Frankfurt, where the Americans are in control, all the way to Weimar. For the first time since the war, Mann returns to the country of his origins, which he had once left to seek refuge in the United States…
Award Winner
Paweł Pawlikowski was awarded the Best Director Prize—one of the festival’s top honors—for his film “VATERLAND” at the 79th Cannes International Film Festival.
