WHAT IS THE VIDEÖCLUB?
The open VideÖclub invites you to Köşk for the first time. The VideÖclub is not a movie theater, but an experiment to bring together a more or less loose community of film enthusiasts at Köşk, who discuss the screening they have just seen over a drink and also provide input for follow-up VideÖclubs. The evening is curated, but there is always interest in suggestions. The VideÖclub is non-commercial, Free admission and drinks are available at cost price. Donations to cover expenses are of course very welcome!

WHAT WILL BE SHOWN?
The first VideÖclub will be showing an Afrofuturist classic from the 1970s, which is part concert film, part blaxploitation genre film. The film follows genre conventions by depicting street slang, junkie milieu, sex workers, pimps, impotent white johns and committed supporters of the Black Panthers Party. Over some stretches, the film turns into a psychedelic trip. Concert scenes repeatedly break up the plot and the free jazz musician Sun Ra appears as a messianic preacher who has arrived by spaceship and wants to take all African Americans with him to colonize an alien planet together. Planet Earth is inevitably doomed and an exodus via music is the only salvation. Ra's great adversary is the city's most powerful pimp, who plays a card game with him while the two exchange points of view. Then there is a group of racist NASA employees who are trying to find out what the new African-American space program is all about and what previously unknown technologies are being used. In the end, they want to put a stop to Ra's plans, which in turn brings a group of angry young fans of Angela Davis and Malcom X from a community center onto the scene ...
After the movie, all viewers are invited to discuss what they have seen over cold drinks. To round off the evening, "DJ Benno ohne Sorge" will play some music of the future.
