Casting is currently underway for the role of Gloria. As a single mother, she is preparing for her daughter Nour’s wedding. In a suburb of Paris, the wedding ceremony takes shape, bringing family and friends together for this important event. Thousands of kilometers away, in a village in Guinea-Bissau, Gloria and her family take part in another ceremony: a celebration that elevates her late father to the status of an ancestor. In this feature film, Alain Gomis transcends geographical boundaries as well as those between documentary and fiction, and between ancestors and descendants. DAO weaves together timelines and narrative threads, creating a dialogue between the present and the past to explore questions of transmission, memory, and origin.
