ensemble FisFüz – Mozart im Morgenland oder: Die Entführten aus dem Serail

With "Mozart in the Orient or The Abduction from the Seraglio", the award-winning German-Turkish ensemble FisFüz opens up a fascinating sound space between Vienna and Constantinople. The starting point of the program is an idea that is as poetic as it is inspiring: what would have happened if Mozart himself had travelled to the Bosporus in 1781 to find inspiration for his opera "The Abduction from the Seraglio"? And if he had brought musicians from the Ottoman court with him to Vienna?

This fictitious encounter gives rise to a musical dialog of extraordinary expressiveness. Motifs from Mozart's famous opera enter into a relationship with courtly music from the time of Sultan Abdülhamid I, are artfully interwoven, improvised upon and brought to life in new tonal colors. Between European classical music and Ottoman tradition, a multi-layered cosmos full of virtuosity, fantasy and cultural resonances unfolds.

ensemble FisFüz combines clarinet, violoncello, vocals and oriental percussion to create a concert experience that is as subtle as it is captivating. The musicians are Annette Maye (clarinet, bass clarinet), Jörg Brinkmann (violoncello) and Murat Coşkun (frame drums, percussion, vocals). An evening that transcends historical boundaries and poetically connects musical worlds.
