Jin Jim

With its distinctive combination of jazz, world music and orchestral sound culture, Jin Jim is one of the most important formations on the young German jazz scene. The NDR described the group as "one of the most spectacular rises in the German jazz scene" - an assessment that is impressively reflected in their international presence. Tours on four continents as well as guest appearances at renowned festivals and in major concert halls have made Jin Jim representatives of a contemporary, boundless understanding of jazz.

The band was founded in 2013 by Daniel Manrique-Smith, Ben Tai Trawinski, Johann May and Nico Stallmann. Early on, the quartet developed an unmistakable musical signature between rhythmic complexity, atmospheric tension and virtuoso improvisation. Shortly after its formation, Jin Jim won the renowned Future Sounds competition at the Leverkusen Jazz Days.

Her current orchestral project now opens up another sonic level: compositions specially arranged for quartet and symphony orchestra unite the expressive openness of jazz with orchestral colorfulness and modern sound language - powerful, multi-faceted and of rousing intensity.
