feeLit 2026: María Elísabet Bragadóttir - Dieu.0
Moderation: Kristof Magnusson
Language: German
María Elísabet Bragadóttir (*1993) is one of the most distinctive young voices in contemporary Icelandic literature. With her precise, detailed language and fine powers of observation, she opens up special literary worlds in which the everyday often tips over into the surreal.
A graduate in philosophy, she has worked as a columnist, radio presenter and literary critic. Her debut book Herbergi í öðrum heimi was celebrated as "Discovery of the Year" in 2020; her second book The Soap Bird earned her a nomination for the European Union Prize for Literature.
María Elísabet Bragadóttir has been a fellow of the UNESCO City of Literature Heidelberg since April 2026 and lives and works in the Kommandantenhaus Dilsberg. There she is writing her first novel, which is situated between Icelandic folklore and social realism.
