Bergische Kaffeetafel – Experience History, Delight, and Tradition

Hardly any other term is as closely associated with the Bergisches Land as the “Bergische Kaffeetafel.” It stands for hospitality, community, and a centuries-old culture of indulgence that remains alive to this day. But how did this special tradition come about? And how did coffee even find its way to the Bergisches Land?

Local historian and author Olaf Link takes you on a journey through the history of the Bergische Kaffeetafel that is as informative as it is entertaining. With in-depth knowledge, regional anecdotes, and a lively presentation, he offers fascinating insights into the everyday culture, trade routes, and social developments that have shaped this unique tradition.

Following the approximately fifty-minute lecture, you’ll experience the Bergische Kaffeetafel in its most authentic form: coffee is served from the traditional “Dröppelminna,” accompanied by a rich selection of typical specialties. These include black bread, brown bread, and Stuten; ham, liver sausage, and blood sausage; Gouda; rice pudding; quark; jam; and beetroot relish. Of course, a Bergisch waffle with hot cherries and whipped cream is a must, as is homemade marble cake. Coffee and tea are served unlimited.

This event combines educational content with regional culinary culture and brings history to life. Learn about the origins of one of the Bergisch region’s most famous traditions while enjoying a culinary taste of home.

Experience Bergisch history firsthand—informative, authentic, and delightful.
