Carte Blanche – jiddisches Berlin
In the organizer's words:
Today, Berlin is home to one of the world’s most vibrant Yiddish cultural scenes. To kick off the festival program, the audience can look forward to a mix of performance, poetry, music, and conversation from the international Yiddish cultural scene in contemporary Berlin:
Anna Rozenfeld will present a new experimental Yiddish sound and language piece and talk about her cultural work between Warsaw and Berlin—from Yiddish radio programs and children’s books to the stage of the Berliner Ensemble.
Sasha Lurje will present new and reinterpreted Yiddish songs, together with the internationally renowned composer and accordionist Patrick Farrell. Through a mix of folk songs, art songs, and modern tunes, they offer insights into Berlin’s Yiddish music and cultural scene, which both have helped shape significantly through the cultural organizationShtetl Berlin.
The event will be moderated by Yiddish poet, cultural activist, and event organizer Jake Schneider.
The event will be held in German, Yiddish, and English.
