“Democracy at Its Limits?” – Marc Raschke, author of a No. 1 *Spiegel* bestseller, is coming to Leipzig

An event organized by the BBW Leipzig Group at the PHILIPPUS Leipzig inclusive workplace

“Radical leftist” just for defending the Basic Law? On Friday, August 21, Spiegel No. 1 bestselling author, journalist, and political influencer Marc Raschke will be a guest at PHILIPPUS Leipzig as part of his book tour. The BBW Leipzig Group, in collaboration with the inclusive workplace, invites you to a reading followed by a discussion: Raschke will present his book “Democracy at the Limit? Why Our Trust Is Eroding and How We Can Regain It” and speak about the state of democratic debate culture in Germany.

As a diaconal business network, the BBW Leipzig Group views participation and co-determination for all members of society as the foundation of our precious democracy. In keeping with this philosophy, admission to the event is free. Political education should be open to everyone, regardless of income or social status. The event will take place at the PHILIPPUS Leipzig inclusive workplace, where people with and without disabilities work together. The reading will also be interpreted in sign language.

In his book, Raschke analyzes how right-wing narratives have increasingly taken root in the political center—often subtly, in a way that appeals to a broad audience, and transcending clear party lines—focusing not only on the AfD but also on structural shifts in public discourse. He explains why the “political center” has become a gateway for authoritarian ways of thinking and what role the media, politics, and civil society play in this process.

At the same time, “Democracy at the Limit?” is a passionate call for personal responsibility: Democracy, according to Raschke, is not defended by outrage alone, but through taking a stand, speaking out, and sustained engagement in everyday life.

The event is aimed at anyone who wants to better understand current political developments and actively strengthen democratic culture. Registration is requested, as space is limited.
