Marcus Bartelt/Paul Heller »Super Sax Cologne«
In the organizer's words:
Stefan Pfeifer-Galilea (alto saxophone, soprano saxophone), Pascal Bartoszak (alto sax), Paul Heller (tenor saxophone), Lennart Allkemper (tenor saxophone). Marcus Bartelt (baritone saxophone), Hubert Nuss (piano), Tristan Sorg (bass), Dominik Raab (drums)
Five saxophones and a rhythm section—a jazz classic. One immediately thinks of the legendary Supersax group featuring Med Flory, Jack Nimitz, and Warne Marsh, which in the 1970s transformed Charlie Parker’s virtuosic solos into a spectacular section sound and became a model for many similar bands. Paul Heller and Marcus Bartelt present their Cologne-style take on this sound. The program features arrangements and original compositions by the participating musicians, harmonized versions of spectacular solos by their favorite saxophonists, and much more. The band spans nearly three generations; the two band leaders are joined by Hubert Nuss and Stefan Pfeifer—two longtime companions—and they team up with some of the rising stars of the local scene to form an explosive ensemble. High energy guaranteed!
