In the organizer's words:
It is also a cherished tradition in Paul Heller's "Invites" series to decorate the pre-Christmas season with an atmospheric concert in which familiar Christmas songs (not only) from the Great American Songbook shine in a fresh new guise. This year, Dutch singer, guitarist and entertainer Tijn Trommelen guarantees a particularly soulful and groovy "Swinging Christmas". Trommelen is a crooner of the highest order. His warm and elegant, but above all simply "just" beguilingly beautiful voice revives the sound of Frank Sinatra from the 1930s and 1940s, without being nostalgic or even old-fashioned. On the contrary: Tijn Trommelen inspires with a contemporary sound that "coalesces" wonderfully, sometimes with a powerful saxophone, sometimes with striking brass instruments. In Tilburg he sang in a tribute to the trombonists JJ Johnson and Kay Winding, and with Paul Heller he could be heard on Engelbert Wrobel's album "Cellar Party"; his long-time companion, the trumpeter and cornetist Thimo Niesterok, was also involved. Together with Paul Heller, the incredibly versatile pianist Roman Babik and the young drumming rising star Jakob Hein, they form a swing sextet in a class of its own. Should it actually snow on this pre-Christmas evening, it will certainly not just trickle: it will dance!
Line-up:
Tijn Trommelen (vocals, guitar), Thimo Niesterok (trumpet), Paul Heller (tenor saxophone), Roman Babik (piano), Caris Hermes (bass), Jakob Hein (drums)
