For the duration of a movie, there is an audience in the cinema. It shares a common movie experience. But how the individual viewers perceive the films shown, what thoughts, feelings or memories they pursue, often remains hidden. Film talks can offer a space to search for a verbalization of these cinematic experiences.
In addition, different perspectives come together in the film discussion. In the best case scenario, these encounters contribute to questioning one's own patterns of perception and setting them in motion.
How can film educators create spaces for discussion that encourage different people to formulate their perspectives and enter into a relationship with each other through film?
The one-day training course seeks an exchange on these questions. The focus is on documentary film. In terms of content, we will deal with
- the design of discussion spaces that are critical of discrimination and inclusive
- the role and attitude of the moderator in film discussions
- possible questioning techniques
- the specific approach to documentary film.
We will explore these topics both theoretically and practically with short exercises.
