With introduction by Tobias Hering and subsequent discussion
FRAUEN IN BERLIN was to be Chetna Vora's graduation film at the Potsdam-Babelsberg Academy of Film and Television. Vora, who had come to the GDR on a scholarship from the Communist Party of India, filmed women talking about their lives with rare candor and in long, barely edited takes. Because she refused to shorten the film to 40 minutes, the working copy was eventually confiscated by the university administration. Tobias Hering presents the surviving VHS copy of the working version.
