Esra and Patrick Phul have caused a stir with their rap musical series "Hype" and shown how genre boundaries can be pushed. Now they are taking on the superhero genre and turning it in a direction you wouldn't expect. For Malik, Dina and Hamza, after a mysterious artifact has given them superpowers, it's not just about rescuing children who have been abducted from their neighborhood. They also find themselves confronted with a social divide taken to extremes and a system that pushes them and their peers to the margins. ALL HEROES ARE BASTARDS transposes the superhero genre into a world that is closer to our own than we might like. Racism, fake news and social media algorithms are no longer sideshows, but have a direct impact on the characters and their decisions. The series combines personal stories with social tensions, somewhere between "Misfits" and "X-Men", but with a signature style all of its own.
